Painting Style
Working on location and in her studio, Eleanor draws on her sensory
experiences, both immediate and remembered, to communicate a sense of
place in her landscapes. She works primarily with watermedia, experimenting
with various water soluble products and exploring different surfaces
to find a result that will enrich the process and improve the quality
of the painting. Recently, she has been working on Oriental rice paper
laminated to a metallic base. The random silk threads in the transparent
rice paper add heightened color and texture to the surface, creating
a luminescent quality raditating from the painting.
Artist's Statement
I have lived in the beautiful Adirondack Mountain region in upper New York state most of my life. I am inspired by being close to the blue mountains, formed by glaciers, surrouding areas of rural space and with the ever changing landscape of the many lakes, rivers, ponds, waterfalls, open fields, rolling hills, old trees and forests of trees. The artist part of me has been influenced by this natural setting.
I do not consider my paintings to be representational, however I have a strong, passionate, feeling and respect for this land. I hope this is evident in the paintings presented on this website and that the sense of place is evident to those who view my work.
